MUMBAI MADNESS Winter 15
The bustling city of Mumbai, India facilitated the inspiration for this collection. Amongst the chaos I was pleasantly surprised by the pops of colour in the streets that stood out amongst all the dust and dirt; women wearing bold and sparkley sari’s, food markets and signage all with colourful and bright products and imagery. People were everywhere at work on the streets amongst this exciting environment.
I drew comparisons of the business working class at home. New Zealander’s have a colourful and lush country but love wearing black. I found this juxtaposition really fascinating and chose to express that in my colour palette.
Mumbai Madness focuses on the hot spots of Mumbai (Bombay); The Crawford Markets, Andheri West (fabric heaven), Elco’s (best vegetarian food), and the dangerous railway stations!
This winter collection was created for the working business women of NZ, I am pushing the boundaries of the black wardrobe by incorporating the richness in luxury and colour from both countries into my designs. Lush silks, wool cashmere and cotton embroidery in tailored garments. Classic Amber Whitecliffedesigns are repeated, as well as new shapes that customers have been requesting.
