Hello my GORGEOUS Customers!
For those of you who haven’t heard, I am now a mum! Boston Kerehi Oscar Pinto was born on the 13th May. He weighed 3.45kgs and was 57cm long. He is very healthy and cute and my husband and I are besotted!!
I have been overwhelmed by the response since giving birth to my wonderful son. Boston has been spoilt with gifts and I have received numerous emails, texts and enquires to the AW team about him! I have always tried to create REAL relationships with my customers; remember their names, jobs, and items they have bought and for what occasion. This is really important to me because EVERY customer of Amber Whitecliffe contributes to my NZ Made label existing and is what makes my job so enjoyable. I wasn’t expecting to feel so much love and support back from you all, so thank you!
I have also had great feedback about my two AW girls Jess and Sophia, I am glad they are looking after you and giving you the service you deserve while I get to know my son! I was hoping on returning to work this week, but as I had to have a c-section I am unable to drive for a few more weeks, so Boston and I are hanging out at home and we are working from here.
The new winter range Pink Nouveau has had so much amazing press and customer response. A lot of it has already SOLD OUT! I am in love with all the pieces. Jess and I worked together to create a really broad range with lots of pieces, unique colours and fabrics for winter and most importantly garments that are trans-seasonal for the crazy New Zealand weather (especially Auckland’s typical “4 seasons n one day”).
As I was designing the range I was thinking about how my life was about to change, and what was important to me. I drew inspiration from moments with my girlfriends who had offered me support and fun times, and been understanding of my busy lifestyle which was about to get a whole lot busier! I have a new appreciation for working mums, and just anyone supporting a family in general!
Anyway, thank you again for the support-keep posting those photos of you in your AW gears and spreading the word! I look forward to catching up soon and introducing my little human to you!
A special thank you to Kate Wark –http://www.katewark.co.nz who came and took some wonderful photos for us! I highly recommend Kate, she takes beautiful natural shots (she also helped with our wedding photos! )

I am 37 weeks pregnant and about to become a mum myself, so it is a very exciting time!
See you in-store next week!
Much love, Amber xx
I’m Jessica, some of you may have seen me working in the boutique or helping Amber out at her fashion shows and events. As you may know Amber is pregnant and due in May, so she will be taking a little bit of time off this year – that is where I come in! I will be taking over full time to make sure our lovely customers are looked after and to also keep things running smoothly.
Just thought I would properly introduce myself and tell you a little more about me. I am 21 years old and of Chinese NZ European descent. I started working for Amber Whitecliffe part time in August 2014 while I was studying a Bachelor of Fine Arts (fashion major) at Whitecliffe College of Arts and Design.
Last year in November at the Whitecliffe College Fashion Show, I presented my graduate collection, Monarch (pictured above). I was inspired by the architecture and hierarchal system of the Qing dynasty of the Forbidden City in China. I incorporated sustainable and ethical practices throughout my collection – some methods were quite labour intensive which was a great learning experience; I grew a biodegradable fabric from a kombucha scoby, naturally dyed silk, hand-knitted garments, up-cycled old garments to give them a new life and used dead stock materials from New Zealand designers (one of them being a beautiful black wool/cashmere from Amber!).
Earlier in 2015, I was one of ten fashion design students in New Zealand to be chosen to participate in the New Zealand and Vietnam Fashion Collaboration. We were partnered with a Vietnamese fashion student and had to design and make a capsule collection to be presented at a fashion show held in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam – we had to design and make everything before we were able to meet our partners for the first time! (pictured above) The collaboration was launched by the embassies to celebrate the forty year relationship between New Zealand and Vietnam.
I have always loved designing and making garments that people enjoy wearing, so being able to be a part of a small New Zealand made label has been really inspiring. Working with Amber has taught me how important it is to go above and beyond for customers to ensure that the fit is perfect ! Together, Amber and I create a concept and find inspiration, design the collections, source materials, draft the pattern, cut garments out of the fabric, drop it off to our local seamstress, photograph it and merchandise the store!
I look forward to having the chance to get to know all of Amber’s loyal customers, create new ones and share with you my excitement and love for fashion. Next time you visit our boutique, come say hi and let me know how you discovered Amber Whitecliffe!
Amber originally designed this stunning collection for Miromoda – a competition for Maori fashion designers, which created the opportunity for her to design something unique and with a point of difference. Amber drew inspiration from combining Indian fabrics with New Zealand fashion.
Indo-Aotearoa, Limited Edition 2016 With the combination of growing social media and the continuation of vast migrants to New Zealand; global trends are very much part of our society. One of the largest migrant groups in New Zealand is from India, and Amber has found particular interest in the Indian culture through their beautiful textiles. India has a vast background and history on fabric and textiles. Embroidery, beading and colour excite her as a designer and using these textiles expresses the fusion of Indian and New Zealand fashion. She enjoys incorporating Indian fabrics into her classic designs in a way that people in New Zealand would love; a modernised sari, Bollywood inspired dresses as well as tailored garments in new, alternative fabrics. When it comes to fashion, cultural inspiration makes for unique and interesting designs. Amber had the privilege of meeting James Ferreira, an Indian based designer known for mixing European couture with traditional Indian ideas and methods. James’ acceptance of his designs in India has only become popular within the past five years, which is evident in the fashion houses in Delhi.
This range is VERY exclusive as Amber brought the fabric back with her from India in her suitcase!
Visit the pop up store at Ponsonby Central this week to see it, or buy it online! We can also do made-to-order, so let us know if you need a different size to what is available!
Love Jess from AW xx
